Where the Ashes Used to Be. "Where the Ashes Used to Be" finds Waylon Cross kneeling in the ruins of a house he burned down himself. Seven years later, he still returns to the black circle of ground where the bedroom once stood. Neighbors call him crazy. He calls it honest. Over fingerpicked acoustic guitar and cold-wind ambience, Cross delivers a haunting confession: sometimes you light the match just to see what isn't dead. There's no redemption here. No rebuilding. Just a man who'd rather sleep in ash than pretend the past isn't gone.". Genre: dark country, slow tempo 64bpm, minor key, male baritone, weathered voice, fingerpicked acoustic guitar, distant pedal steel, no drums, heavy reverb, midnight darkness atmosphere, lonely and empty.
